Under the miniscule prism

Unable to Install Guild Wars 2 using ESET Smart Security 4

I have recently purchased a new and epic game :ahem: in my opinion of course. But I have encountered several issues downloading and executing the GW2.exe. At first I thought it was only a simple “Run as Administrator” issue but it wasn’t. It seems that you need to exclude the entire game client folder where you installed Guild Wars to be able to initialize installation, download and future patching. The entire game file is encapsulated in a .DAT format. Much to my surprise this seeming “security” protection for the entire program prevents it from launching when using ESET’s Smart Security 4.

To exclude an executable you need to open the “Entire Advanced Setup Tree” and look for the entry “Exclusions” under the “Antivirus and Antispyware”. Find “add” and browse to where the GW2.exe file is, select it and then hit OK. I searched for a resolution and found none near my issue. So might as well blog about it and help those who may have the same predicament.
